About Ginsy
Ginsy Barnes is an artist from Raleigh, North Carolina. In her work, she transforms the Southern landscape into a surreal environment that reflects her inner world. Interested in the native plants and culture of her home state, her connection to her surroundings are rooted in childhood. Growing up, her parents took her on many hikes on the Appalachian trail. During these hikes her father, a biology major, taught her about the many species of plants and animals that call the southern woods their home. She has always been fascinated in the organic forms and textures of nature and likes to incorporate these forms and patterns into her work.
She received her BFA in Studio Art at Appalachian State University. She has shown her work in various galleries regionally, including the Museum of Life and Science in Durham and the Watauga Arts Council. She was a recipient of the 2023 Plemmons Student Union Purchase Award at Appalachian State’s Art + Design Expo. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her dog Billy, and her cat, Mr. Jumpy Stripes.
